Are you fit for Golf?

I know what you’re probably thinking: How fit do I really need to be to drive a golf cart around, hit a ball, and drink a cold beverage at the end of the round?  It wouldn’t seem that you need much “fitness” to do that but in fact the golf swing alone is a very dynamic and complicated movement that demands mobility, stability, and power to be generated by your body in a split second.  If your body is moving efficiently then it can make an efficient swing. So how do you know if it’s moving efficiently?

The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) developed a system to condition professional golfers for the demands of tour golf as well as unlocking their potential to be a better player.  Their system integrates the skill-sets of golf-fitness professionals, swing coaches, and medical professionals to work collectively to improve the player and make the athlete move more efficiently.  TPI then took that model and offered certification courses so that local fitness professionals, golf-teaching professionals, and medical professionals can bring that same level of golf-specific fitness training to the weekend warrior.

Now you too can train like a pro.

TPI’s system starts with a physical screen test that is designed to determine if an individual has any physical limitations such as limited range of motion, asymmetries, or pains during golf-specific movement patterns.  Once an individual’s screen scores are determined, a TPI certified golf-fitness professional can assess the player and figure out their weakest links that will prevent them from playing their best golf.  Once those weakest links are eliminated using corrective exercises, the player can now move as efficiently as they could be.  If pain is evident during the screen, the medical professional rehabilitates the injury until it’s eliminated.  Now the golf-teaching professional can show you how to swing the club without those limitations getting in the way of you making a swing correction.

So whether you’re a touring pro or a weekend hacker, your local TPI-certified team of professionals will be able to help you get fit for golf and playing your best for years to come!
