There is something to be said for working with a group of amazing people. I like to think that I always work with amazing people so far along my entrepreneurial journey but UnConference UnMarketing YVR on December 1st in Vancouver, takes the cake!
What started out with a tweet and an invite to Scott Stratten of UnMarketing snowballed into quite a ride with Jeff & Tara Ciecko of CkGolfSolutions and Marc Smith of Amuse Consulting. I am ever grateful to have worked with this wonder team!
These are 5 Tips I took away from planning a Social Media event such as this!
1. Align yourself with like minded tweeps and those that will play to your strengths while allowing the rest of the team to shine in theirs! It makes the flow of planning go quite smoothly as you hash out the details.
2. Communication. It’s really quite simple. A few in person meetings. Great email communication, phone calls and of course full use of your Twitter accounts for sharing with your team as well as promoting the actual event itself.
3. Align yourself with Great Sponsors! I can’t count the hands I shook that found out about the event not only from Social Media but because of the adverts run by B.C. Business! Our other sponsors were equally involved in sharing and promoting the event internally to staff as well as their Social Media followers. Thank you to ING Direct, University Golf Course , Blenz Coffee & Fairmont Hotels , Mark McD Creative, Photodreamz, Planet Awesome Productions .
4. Volunteers! You need back up support and having great volunteers on board is a must. We had an overwhelming response and list of volunteers long enough to hold a week long conference I think! These ladies are doing great things and you should check them out Sandi Faviell Amorim @devacoach, Leisa LaDell @itsleisa , Michelle Davies @michelledavies1 and Stephanie Wiebe @stepahaniercw.
5. Last but not least, liveblogging of an event like this is a must. @davemacdonald took care of that in great detail here at Avid Tetra!
That’s pretty much it! I think I just gave away all our secrets
