Recently I attended an event in which the topic of Social Media came up.  Inevitably it always does right? 

What’s your Twitter handle? Do you have a Facebook fan page?  Do you use YouTube?   These only a few of the top questions that always come up.

Our conversation continued along in which this gentleman let me know that he had a Twitter account, was sitting back watching what was happening  and Tweeting as he could.   He was reading blogs on Social Media, following those to be what he said, ” in the know” and Tweeting as he could.   He proceeded to let me know that as he engaged with others he started to meet people for coffee and continued… Tweeting … as he could!  He then proceeded to say that this got him excited and he was going to start a Facebook fan page for his business.  Then he took a breath and asked me, ” So, what do you think?”

Of course I let him know that in my opinion he was off to a good start!  I heard that he was watching, learning, participating and engaging others and meeting people!  We spoke of ways to learn more about different platforms and of course I suggested UnConference as a must attend to learn more!

Out he comes with, ” Oh, So you’re part of  theVancouver Social Media Scene?!”

I think my jaw hit the floor in all honesty wondering exactly what he meant by that.  I was stunned…the wheels started turning.   I was stumped trying to think up  what a grandiose title such as this meant.

I responded, ” Social Media Scene… well, you’ve already mentioned you are active on Twitter. You are wishing to learn and persue more.  While some are on these platforms more than others…we are all still here together.  We’re watching, learning, participating, engaging & hopefully meeting new people.  If there is a ‘Scene’ to be spoken of…this is it…and we’re in it together.”
