Hiring the Best Assistant for You

I’ve been pondering this post over the last few days.  When people think of hiring an Assistant of this nature they almost always think Virtual.  This does not always have to be the case as there are Assistant Services available, in which you can meet up and have a coffee and suss out a fit for you.

When hiring an Assistant you want to be sure to find the best fit for your business.  A fit that will help you reach your business goals and free you up to do what you do best!

You will want to check out the following:

  • Does the Assistant work particular hours or round the clock? Do they fit with your business needs? Most that are in the Assistant business do so because they enjoy the lifestyle that goes with it and setting their own hours, vacation times and family times.
  • Keep in mind that Assistants usually work with more than one client. Do you need an Assistant full time / part time… or just for a few monthly duties?  Find out just what your Assistant can offer.
  • If you are in need of an Assistant on a regular basis you may ask them for a Trial Period.  Another idea would be to have them do a one off.  Give a time frame and specifics and give them a try before you committ.
  • Do a background check!  Google can be great for this.  Just see what others are saying and what other things the Assistant company may be involved with.

Take a look at what’s on your plate.  Don’t let yourself become overwhelmed.  You may hire an Assisant off shore or find someone locally and meet them for coffee.  Try before you buy and have some peace of mind on the Assistant Services that you partner up with!

Jordan Consulting- Private Investigator

Ok, so I’m not going to add Private Investigator to my listing of expertise but wanted to share with you my experience in facilitating simplicity for some thus far.  I have a top 5 list of areas researched for different companies and individuals that I have worked with that I want to share with you.

#5 : Canadian Energy Companies – a comprehensive list of different types of Canadian Energy Companies mainly within the western region. 200 contacts, some publicly traded companies and stock information…something I know little about.

#4: Toy Companies in British Columbia – this research project was delegated only a certain amount of hours but there are many different types of childrens shops and toy shops throughout B.C. online and store front! The list goes on  and on and on. Who wouldn’t want this list at the fingertips? I don’t know because some of the best items on earth, are found in these shops!

#3: Hotels: Yes, Hotels now this was just a research listing …for now… but I think that would be a sweet list to revist, see which is best and make a wish list of ‘Where to Stay’ in this big ‘ol Province of ours!

#2: Spas & Wellness Centres- Need I say more? If I do I’ll just go on and on! Pure Pampering and Relaxation and well, the intent of this listing was for these companies was to check out those in the same or similar industry to them… as well as move on to compare more on industry standards and where to move forward in their business.  A little area I happen to have close to 10yrs experience in.  And the #1 Research request I have received this year? Seriously?  Doctors!

Yes, Doctors!  I have had numerous requests on researching Doctors in different areas.  I have heard that it is a particularly challenging task in the Lower Mainland.  Yes, information is on line about Doctors accepting new patients. By the time you call them all you may discover that the listing is inaccurate, they are indeed not taking new patients and you have to suss it out for yourself.  Of course the catch is, you still have to go and visit that Doctor to see if you personally are a fit.

And this is it.  My top 5 list on what I have been asked to research this year.   Of course there are many reasons for research to be done.  Many companies like to  create  joint venture relationships.   Your Assistant can research potential  joint venture partners that may provide to a similar customer as your biz or whose customer base will benefit from your product or service. You may do contra or come up with creative ideas to share networking opportunities or partnerships in hosting events or client appreciations, to name a few.

So, while I can’t call myself Cadi Jordan, PI… Research is Investigating and that is good fun!

Oooo! Another request…I’m off to get my ‘sneak’ on ;)

When To Hire An Assistant….

Posted on: 1 Comment

For some, the idea of hiring an Assistant comes while bantering with hiring an employee.  You are busy, your business is successful and maybe you’re losing balance with other things that you enjoy in your life.   Most would think first to hire an employee.  Here’s a tip! Contracting saves you employee management!

Contract an Assistant as a one off or on a regular basis for specific tasks. You may pay out hourly or by the job depending on your agreement.  Continue delivering top notch product or services that your business is well known for, get more done and over deliver to your clients!

Keeping clients happy and coming back to you is just as important as gaining new ones.  Contracting out will help you with the back end of your business and the tasks that you may leave on your ‘ To Do’ list.  You can then free up time to focus on building relationships with your new clients!

You and your business are known for being able to deliver and deliver well.   You may be the best in town at what you do and you won’t even think of taking on a project that you may not be able to complete or is out of your expertise.  An Assistant  can get things done that may not be in your own repertoire and do that work on your behalf.  You can have a pool of Assistants with various tasks and specialties to draw from!

Hiring locally is advantageous to you as you have flexibility and the option of having them work personally or virtually.  You can meet and see if you’re a good fit to work together.

Achieve and Maintain your business success by hiring an Assistant!
