As Social Media is a part of my business, I find myself investigating many things that come my way. Questions being, “Is this the next new thing?” “Should I or Shouldn’t I check this out?”
In the past week I have found my in box filling up with Referral Key invites. Some of those invites by well trusted colleagues. One of them I consider a media personality. So there I was, Hooked in!
As I proceeded throught the set up of the account I was shown options to choose Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn to share and ask my contacts to connect. There was an option to uncheck those I did not wish to send the invite to. Somewhere in the process however this did not work out. I am certain that all of my contacts were hit.
The emails that ensued continued to feed my inbox. As others trusted me and signed up I was asked to ‘Rate’ services with a gold star. Well, I’d like to think I’ve done business with everyone in my LinkedIn. I have not, so how to ‘Rate’?
All of this aside, I kept digging and responding to my inbox. These were a few of the notes I recieved.
” Hi Cadi, Thanks for the invite but I am happily working over at Big Social Media platform and only taking speaking engagments at this time.”
“Is this legit Cadi? It’s kinda spammy…should I really sign up?”
“Thank you, I am going to check this out further but I think I am really going to like this new site.”
I came across this post by (@RizzoTees) Chris Reimer over on his blog . Chris goes into further detail and for that I am thankful. I proceeded to share around Twitter.
Do we really need a site to refer each other? Are our current systems not working? Personally, I connect and refer no matter. Obviously it’s at our discretion to commence work with someone we may not know. Buyer Beware right?
Established relationship really is why we refer each other in the first place is it not? We do it because we believe the connections that we are making will benefit one another!
I am thankful for the conversations that have ensued because of the ‘mass email’. The reconnections, engaging, thoughts and opinions.
With that, is a referral site such as this the key? I would love to hear your two cents below!
