Social Media Money- How The Shirt On Your Back Can Be Profitable

Posted on: 1 Comment

Event Take Two!

It was a pleasure to co-host the successful UnMarketing UnBook YVR conference in late 2010 with Jeff and Tara Ciecko of CKGolfSolutions and Marc Smith of Amuse Consulting! While that event was about Social Media ‘Engagement’ this one is all about the Social Media Money!

Without further ado, I would like to officially share the upcoming event Social Media Money- How The Shirt On Your Back Can Be Profitable. From the team that brought you UnMarketing UnBook YVR, we are pleased to roll out another amazing event with Jason Sadler of I Wear Your Shirt, Josh Rimer, Meena Sandhu of ING and George Moen of Rapid Time News.

How to Make Money:

Jason is our keynote and will start off our afternoon telling his story and sharing insights on how to monetize the social media world. Jason monetizes every social media platform he uses. He has grown his idea from a one person show to a team of 5 shirt wearers and has worked with over 1,000+ companies including Starbucks and Nissan. Jason is ready to share with us how to monetize all of  the effective social media outlets, such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Ustream and Flickr.

About the Event:

Social Media is here and it’s here to stay. Social Media is part of Marketing and PR and all should be married together. This conference is about monetizing social for profit.

5 Tips on Planning a Social Media Event

Posted on: 1 Comment

There is something to be said for working with a group of amazing people.  I like to think that I always work with amazing people so far along my entrepreneurial journey but UnConference UnMarketing YVR on December 1st in Vancouver, takes the cake!

What started out with a tweet and an invite to Scott Stratten of UnMarketing snowballed into quite a ride with Jeff & Tara Ciecko of CkGolfSolutions and Marc Smith of Amuse Consulting.  I am ever grateful to have worked with this wonder team!

These are 5 Tips I took away from planning a Social Media event such as this!

1. Align yourself with like minded tweeps and those that will play to your strengths while allowing the rest of the team to shine in theirs!   It makes the flow of planning go quite smoothly as you hash out the details.

2. Communication.  It’s really quite simple. A few in person meetings. Great email communication, phone calls and of course full use of your Twitter accounts for sharing with your team as well as promoting the actual event itself.

3. Align yourself with Great Sponsors!  I can’t count the hands I shook that found out about the event not only from Social Media but because of the adverts run by B.C. Business!   Our other sponsors were equally involved in sharing and promoting the event internally to staff as well as their Social Media followers.  Thank you to ING Direct,  University Golf Course , Blenz Coffee & Fairmont Hotels , Mark McD Creative,  Photodreamz, Planet Awesome Productions .

4. Volunteers! You need back up support and having great volunteers on board is a must.  We had an overwhelming response and list of volunteers long enough to hold a week long conference I think!  These ladies are doing great things and you should check them out Sandi Faviell Amorim @devacoach, Leisa LaDell @itsleisa , Michelle Davies @michelledavies1 and Stephanie Wiebe @stepahaniercw.

5. Last but not least, liveblogging of an event like this is a must.  @davemacdonald took care of that in great detail here at Avid Tetra!

That’s pretty much it!  I think I just gave away all our secrets ;)

Ok…we’re only a couple of days away from welcoming Scott Stratten of UnMarketing to town!  It’s been great working with Jeff & Tara of CkGolfSolutions and Marc Smith of Amuse Consulting.  We are so excited for this day to come!

With Scott beginning UnConference gracing us with his UnBook Tour insights followed by Meena Sandhu of
ING Direct - Social Media- One Company’s Story, we are sure to learn a lot before the panel even sets in!

Panel! Yes, Panel! This is part of our main excitement of the day because it really involves you, the attendee, to pull this off! We welcome not only Scott Stratten and Meena Sandhu to join us on this day but also George Moen of Blenz Coffee , Gillian Shaw of Vancouver Sun, Digital Life and Kristi Ferguson, Publisher of Fraser Valley Pulse.  Each to join and share expertise with us!

We’ d like to get the ball rolling with questions for that day here!  What are some of the pressing things that you would like to learn about at UnConference?  Do you have questions for specific panelists?   We will be taking questions day of but would love to get a jump start on your insights!  If you’re unable to make it…leave your question here.   If you still need tickets…there are few left…get them here!  Eventbrite

Funny how this all came about with a little Twitter banter…a tweet here…a tweet there…Hey Scott…you’re NOT coming to Vancouver?   Hmmmm wonder what we have to do to make that happen? So I asked… and here we are … and I am ever grateful to be having Scott Stratten come to town and even more grateful for the team that came to be in hosting this event! CK Golf Solutions quickly jumped on board and Amuse Consulting jumped right in shortly after and we’ve been hard at work ever since!

Un-Book Tour Arrives in Vancouver December 1st!   This is MORE than a book tour….this is an Un-Conference!  The venue for this exciting event will be the Soctia Bank Dance Center on Davie street.
