In this industry I get to experience many different types of services and products. My very first facial ever was a Dermalogica facial at the Spa at the Chateau Whistler. My most recent Dermalogica experience was with Paula over at the Dermal Institute and I can’t rave about it enough. The Dermal Institute is a training facility  to help aestheticians advancement of their knowledge in skin care and have been providing top training for over 20 years. If your skin is in need of some revitalization then this may be the experience that you’re after! Dermalogica specializes their facial treatments and they are custom designed for your skin type to cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate the skin. My dehydrated skin reaped the results for 3-4 weeks after! I highly recommend trying a Dermalogica facial!

What is a Typical Dermalogica Facial Like?

I’ve been to many spas for facial treatments, and this particular skin care line only is available at select spas around the country. Dermalogica prides itself on only allowing it’s product in where the aestheticians have been trained in using the company’s protocol and products to offer this type of facial. In my experience, Dermalogica adds a few extra steps above and beyond a typical facial.

The facial treatment usually begins with a prewash or cleanse and a professional skin analysis so that the aesthetician has a good idea of what your skin type is and what your main problem areas are. Whether you have dehydrated, dry, or super-oily skin, your aesthetician will be able to pull together the right set of products for your skin type. The aesthetician might ask you what products you currently are using, and you must inform them if you are taking Accutane or using any prescription-strength skin care. This part of the protocol is to ensure that the products don’t interact with the products used in the facial. After the skin analysis, your skin will be cleansed again and the facial will begin.

These facials usually include the following:

  1. Two cleansing sessions
  2. Exfoliation with the ” daily microfoliant” product ( I’m giving this away)
  3. Hydrating or acne masque
  4. Extractions
  5. Toning and moisturizing
  6. Sunscreen application

Dermalogica facials are customized for all skin types, and you can upgrade to an advanced treatment if you need to treat acne, aging skin, and hyperpigmented skin.

I thoroughly enjoyed my facial with Paula, who also trains at the Dermal Institute, and I wish I could take her home with me for home care. While I can’t do that, I can use Dermalogica at home. One of my favorite products for daily use is the Daily Microfoliant. It is a gentle exfoliant safe for daily use and I highly recommend adding it to your regular regime.

Dermalogica has graciously extended a Daily Microfoliant to one lucky reader. ( value $50)
